The Dasypus anachronismus is a bipedal creature native to the north of Sweden, even if it often wishes that this was not the case. The behaviour of the species is by turns characterised by lethargy and periods of energetic but unfocussed activity, which may appear largely irrational to the casual onlooker. If something catches its attention, it will often react with a fascination that borders on obsession. Like a magpie, it is drawn to shiny items, although its idea of what counts as shiny may differ significantly from that of the magpie. It is known for often longing to be a species other than what it is, although the wished-for form may differ from day to day.

A fairly obscure and reclusive animal, even the Dasypus anachronismus itself sometimes has doubts regarding its existence. Some cryptozoologists have suggested that its present (and disputed) existence is an anomaly, and that the species either should have become extinct many years back or that its niche in the ecosystem is one that will open sometime in the future, or quite possibly an alternative present. (Needless to say, all scientists who at all care about being taken seriously disregard such speculation as pure pseudoscientific nonsense.)

While not the most adaptable of creatures, it can thrive and prosper in certain specialised environments. Some crucial factors for its survival are music, speculative fiction, brains well in tune with its own, and large amounts of spicy noodles. As of yet, not much practical use for the species has been found, although most research indicates that it does not pose much of a threat either. It is slightly peeved at this, and will put those pesky scientists in their proper place one of these days, just you wait.
